By placing them side by side, you will notice that the Skyrocket is taller, but thinner and lighter than the Torch 9860 measuring 131 x 70 x 9mm and weighing 132 grams while the BlackBerry measures 120 x 62 x 11.5mm and weighs 135 grams. Both devices come with touchscreens able to support more than 16 million colors and have the same resolution of 480 x 800 pixels. However, the size of their screens is different: the Skyrocket offers a 4.5-inch Super AMOLED Plus touchscreen while the Torch 9860 comes with a 3.7-inch TFT display.

Under the hood, these smartphones host powerful processors able to deliver enough power for running the operating system and the various features available and providing a great user experience. The BlackBerry Torch 9860 is equipped with a 1.2GHz processor with 768MB of RAM and 4GB of storage. On the other hand, the Galaxy S II Skyrocket is more powerful being equipped with a 1.5GHz dual-core processor with 1GB of RAM and 16GB of storage. You should know that both devices provide microSD card support which allows you to increase the storage area. Regarding the operating system available on these high end devices, I need to mention that the Torch 9860 runs on BlackBerry OS 7 while the Skyrocket runs on Android 2.3.6 with the TouchWiz UI.

These two smartphones come with plenty of advanced features (many of them similar) including text and multimedia messaging, an unlimited phone book, to-do list, Swype, document viewer and access to various email accounts. Another feature that needs to be compared is the camera. The Torch 9860 offers a 5MP camera equipped with LED flash, geo-tagging and 720p video recording capabilities. On the other hand, the Skyrocket comes with a 2MP front-facing camera and an 8MP rear camera which offers advanced camera settings and 1080p video recording capabilities. On both high end devices you will have the possibility to find a well featured media player able to support various file formats and a few preinstalled games.

Droid X Versus Iphone 4

When the iPhone 4 was launched there was a massive flow of people assaulting the gates of just about any Apple store in the continental US. Naturally, Android based smartphones did not lay dormant until now and as a response to the Apple giant, Motorola has placed the Droid X on the market. This was an extremely noisy release, as the Motorola Droid X created a complete chaos which resulted in 600.000 pre orderings and a lot more sales when the Droid was launched.

As you’ve probably been accustomed with, we’ll battle these phones on all fronts and see which one can “keep its shoulders up” while the other ones gets pinned down.

Performance wise both the iPhone 4 and the Droid X are running on the same 1 GHz processor. The iPhone 4 was running on the same chip as the first generation iPad while the Android based Droid X is running on the Qualcomm 1GHz processor. Both phones have the exact same amount of memory: 512 MB RAM. In this case, the only difference between them would be the operating system because the hardware department is quite similar.

Unfortunately for Motorola, the display factor is a completely different story. While the display of the Droid X is a whole 1.2 inches bigger than the display on the iPhone 4 the resolution on that gorgeous Retina display mounted on the iPhone is simply outstanding.  Despite the fact that the phone measures only 3.5 inches, it has a resolution of 960 x 640 while the 4.3 inch display of the Motorola comes with 800 x 480 which is nowhere near the iPhone. Naturally, this can also be disputed depending on what the customer is looking for.

On the other hand, Motorola has the storage department in the bag. The iPhone 4 was not developed with a 64GB version which means the maximum amount of memory is of 32 GB. The Motorola Droid X comes with a bit more of a kick. First of all the Droid X comes with 8GB of integrated memory, but unlike the iPhone, the Motorola Droid X also comes with an microSD slot which will allow the use of cards with up to 32GB of memory. This means the Droid X reaches a top of 40GB memory storage.

And last but not least, the connectivity department which once again comes on Droid’s side. While both of them have Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS, the Motorola Droid X can also act as a mobile hotspot for different gadgets, feature missing from the iPhone 4.
